Health Career Quest Summer Camp 2009

EXPLORE various health career opportunities by participating in various tours, presentations and hands-on activities

OBSERVE health careers in both a rural and urban setting (The Pas and Winnipeg)

DEVELOP or improve life skills required for educational successImprove interpersonal, communication and leadership skills

RECEIVE personal pre-requisite and career planning advice and information

IMPROVE basic math, science and English skills through a specifically tailored remediation plan for each student

EXPERIENCE campus and Winnipeg life by participating in a variety of social activities

RECEIVE a student mentor in your interested field of study

Application Requirements
  1. Completed application form
  2. Copy of your most recent high school transcript
  3. Short personal essay outlining your interest in health careers, your community involvement, career goals, etc.
  4. Two completed reference forms completed by two non-relatives (preferably an employer, teacher or guidance counsellor)

Rural Week 2009

Rural Week 2009 will take place in less than two weeks.

Since its 2003 inception, Rural Week organizers and a variety of rural/northern Manitoba communities have offered over 600 first year University of Manitoba – Faculty of Medicine students a mix of inspiration, opportunity and vision to ultimately create a positive & lasting impression of rural/northern family medicine.

Rural Week 2009 takes place May 18 -22. 111 students will be placed in 42 communities in rural and northern Mantitoba and Nunavut.

Participating communities include: Altona, Arborg, Ashern, Barens River, Beausejour, Brandon, Carman, Dauphin, Eriksdale, Flin Flon, Garden Hill/Island Lake, Gillam, Gimli, Gladstone, Hamiota, Lynn Lake, Minnedosa, Morden, Morris, Neepawa, Niverville, Notre Dame de Lourdes, Pinawa, Pine Falls, Portage la Prairie, Red Sucker Lake/Wasagamuch, Rankin Inlet, Rivers, Russell, Sanikiluaq, Selkirk, Ste. Anne, St. Pierre, Ste. Rose, Steinbach, Stonewall, Swan Lake, Swan River, The Pas, Thompson, Vita and Winkler.
